Meet the CrossFit Coaches

WHO WE ARE

The coaching staff at CrossFit Propel is unmatched in its knowledge, experience, and enthusiasm for helping people. Their passion is a large part of what makes the training experience at CrossFit Propel the best in fitness. Our coaches are diverse in their backgrounds, motivations, and strengths. (And weaknesses!) They each have their own story and are relatable in their own way. They’ve been through all walks of life, just like our member athletes. See their stories here.
  • Robert Walter

    Owner

“The hardest part is getting here. If you get here, we will get you through the workout.”

Rob and Alicia’s passion is to help everyone improve their fitness, as it is our only defense against sickness. CrossFit has changed their lives and they are passionate about helping others do the same.

Rob and Alicia enjoy spending time together CrossFitting and raising their three boys and baby girl. The family stays active together through CrossFit and getting outdoors often to camp and hike. Rob and Alicia have a hunger for knowledge and love the scientific “geekiness” of CrossFit.

Rob has a Bachelors Degree in Biology from the University of Houston. He discovered CrossFit in 2011 while at the Police Academy and fell in love with training for the “unknown and unknowable.” Rob has been involved with martial arts, wrestling, and weightlifting his whole life. After starting CrossFit, he knew it was the correct way to train and quickly began to study the science of why CrossFit works and was impressed with the amount of data and evidence supporting the methodology of CrossFit. This inspired Rob to attain his Level-1 CrossFit Trainer Certificate in August of 2013. Rob has attended the Freestyle Gymnastics Movement Seminar by Carl Paoli and also holds a CrossFit Weightlifting Trainer certificate, CrossFit Mobility Trainer certificate, CrossFit Kids Trainer certificate and CrossFit Strongman Trainer certificate.

  • Clarence Miller

    Coach

“Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure… than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.” -Theodore Roosevelt

Clarence was born and raised in Springfield, Ohio (home of The Simpsons) and was graduated from Ashford University Alumni, with a degree in Organizational Management. He is a military husband to a beautiful wife and 6 beautiful kids. He now resides in Pearland, Texas, where he plans to leave his mark on the fitness community by inspiring others to be greater than they were the day before.

Clarence’s athletic background includes Track and Field, and Wrestling, two sports that test the limits of one’s physical as well as the mental capacity to their fullest. Physical fitness has been a passion of his since he can remember. Clarence discovered CrossFit in 2012 and hadn’t looked back since. He built on his passion by obtaining his CrossFit Level 1 Trainer Certification. He hopes as a trainer is to help others redefine the true meaning of physical fitness and mental toughness. He believes CrossFit is not just about physical fitness, but building a community through a shared desire to be great.

  • Dawn English

    Coach

Dawn grew up in Houston, and can’t recall a time when she was not active in something, but her passion was track, and the longer the distance the better. A knee injury took her into a traditional big box gym with long, steady state cardio and sets and reps on weight machines. Then after 17 years of marriage, 2 daughters, and a couple of surgeries later, Dawn did not recognize the person in the mirror. She found herself 40 pounds heavier, with some not so favorable lab results, and could not seem to get it back under control. Her husband had started CrossFit a year and a half earlier and encouraged her to try it out.

From the videos and images she saw, Dawn didn’t think CrossFit was for her, but with her husband’s encouragement, she signed up for an Elements class in October 2011, then went on into try group classes. What a humiliating experience! She worked out with people who could run, lift and do pull-ups in record times while she pulled up the rear. But the amazing thing was they had more faith in her than she had in herself. They cheered and yelled and always found a way to get her through it, never once allowing her to say those dreaded words. “DID NOT FINISH.” Dawn began attending 5 classes a week, made friends, found workout buddies, and discovered all kinds of talents she had no idea she possessed; she drank the Kool-aid openly and frequently.

Dawn obtained her Level-1 certification in December 2014 with the mindset of giving back some of what CrossFit has given to her. Dawn’s motto is “Plug away at it, and it will come.” Maybe not as quickly or effortlessly as you would like it to, but it will happen. Dawn believes anyone can be successful in Crossfit, that you are your only true competition, and if you come in with a mind open to change.

  • Brad English

    Coach

Brad is a native Houstonian and spent his youth playing football and running track. He considers himself a die-hard gym rat. Brad began lifting weights at a neighborhood gym as a teen. He and his friends all wanted to be “Arnold.”

Brad has always made exercise a priority and spent 9 years in the United States Army, which only increased his physical activity. Thereafter, he worked as a personal trainer for 4 years prior to becoming a Houston Fire Fighter. He’s always felt strongly about maintaining a certain level of fitness. Brad discovered CrossFit in 2010 and was humbled by the experience. He walked in pretty fit and found himself struggling, but became determined to improve at all that CrossFit had to offer. He believes in hard work and putting the hours into the gym. He feels everyone must pay their dues, and that you only get out of it what you put into it. Developing strength and skills is essential to success.

    Coach

Before CrossFit Amy just did the typical gym cardio routine — getting on the elliptical, treadmill, and stair stepper. Lifting weights was not the norm for her and she felt uncomfortable trying to figure out where to start.

Amy tried CrossFit for the first time in August 2013. What she love most about CrossFit is how comfortable it has made her feel in her own skin. Joining this community has shown her all that she’s capable off, and all the possibilities. Amy is rewarded in seeing members experience the feeling of accomplishment and excitement in learning a new movement or hitting a new Personal Best.

    Coach

“It has to start somewhere, it has to start sometime. What better place than here? What better place than now!” – ZDR

After a scare at work and a trip to the emergency room, Jacob realized that he was not as healthy as he thought. Even though he didn’t feel overweight or unhealthy, the doctor told him he was borderline hypertensive. Heart disease runs in Jacob’s family, so he knew he was headed down the wrong road. His wife was pregnant with their second baby at the time and he knew that at almost 40 years old, he needed a lifestyle change, not just for him, but for his family.

    Athletic background:
Jacob didn’t have an athletic background, so walking into Propel was super intimidating for him. But the moment he walked through those doors he felt welcomed and knew he had found his second family. It has been almost two years and he has not looked back since and is the healthiest he has ever been. He loves CrossFit because it is for anyone, any age, in any condition.
